Steps
Part 1
Selecting Images to Edit
1
Open a new document in Photoshop. Begin by opening a new document. This document will be used for all the steps in this tutorial.
2
Adjust the display settings by pressing CTRL (Command) + ALT (Option) + A on Windows, or CMD + OPTION + A on Mac. On the Windows version of Photoshop, the new window will appear. The Mac version will open a new window. The first step in selecting the image is to adjust the display settings for your computer.
In the Options bar, click the View menu and adjust the following settings:
Display: Set to “Window” for a non-full-screen view (usually leftmost in the menu bar). “Full Screen” displays your entire design on the screen.
New Artboard: Set to one of the following options: “Canvas” (default) displays a new blank Photoshop canvas for your design. Press CTRL (Command) + Shift + N (Win) or CMD + Shift + N (Mac) to start a new canvas. “Image” displays the original image in the canvas, and “Background” displays a plain white canvas in the same window as the image that you are editing.
Adjustment: Set to either “Custom” or “Image Only” depending on whether or not you want to see your image adjustments in the preview as you work.
In the Display menu at the bottom of the Options Bar, set the Resolution to “72” (dots per inch) or “300” (dots per inch) if you want to zoom in for a closer look. I prefer the larger settings, but you can experiment to see which settings work best for your personal preferences. It is much easier to make mistakes at 300 ppi, because of the higher resolution.
Actions
Create a new image (Layers)
Begin with a blank canvas. Create a new image by pressing CTRL (Command) + N (Win) or CMD + N (Mac). When the New Image dialog box appears, check the boxes next to “Canvas” and “Clone Image” (or “Image” if you want to see your image adjustments in the preview as you work). Set the Sides size of the new canvas to “3” (inches).

A step-by-step guide on how to create a simple emoji design and edit it to create an awesome looking emoji design.
Before we start
You’ll need Photoshop to create the design and create a perfect emoji design.
If you don’t have Photoshop, you can use any other image editor. We tested out Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and GIMP (the GNU Image Manipulation Program) in this tutorial. This tutorial also works with any other program as long as you use the Photoshop camera RAW (CR2) or PSD files.
Step 1: The Design
The design is based on the ():) emoji from Unicode 7.0. Open the ():) emoji in Photoshop. Then, duplicate the image and paste it below in a new document.
Step 2: Clean Up
Group the image into one layer by pressing Ctrl + G (or Select > Group).
This is the image before.
After we’ve made it into one layer we can easily duplicate the layer and hide it.
Press Shift + Ctrl + I to deselect all, then right-click in the layer to duplicate it.
Now, select Layer > Flatten Image. This gives us a flat design. You can press Ctrl + T to make the design look more three-dimensional (see the step below).
Use a soft white brush to change the colors, if needed. You can use the Gradient tool (Ctrl + B) to make the gradient look like it’s reflecting an object.
Step 3: Raised Emoji & Color Adjustments
We’ll darken the entire design with a dark color and create the raised emoji on top. Duplicate the layer and make it black. Use the Lasso tool to draw a star shape on top of the ():) emoji. The star should be a perfect round shape. It’s the middle of a semicircle, so we can draw in from the outside and inside.
We’re going to use a soft black brush to create a color gradient that will change to white. Press Shift + Ctrl + I to deselect all. Right-click the gradient below the star to add it. Select Canvas > Color Range to create the gradient. The gradient goes from black to white.
Then, use the Gradient tool to create a lighter gradient that shows from the bottom of

Q:
How to project a multiple dimensional numpy array (containing different data types) into a new multi-dimensional array
I have an input numpy array that I would like to project into a new multi-dimensional array. The array looks like this:
